David H. Roman
President & Chief Executive Officer
David Roman was appointed President & Chief Executive Officer in July 2022 and also continues to serve as CFO. He joined Acutus in March 2021 as Chief Financial Officer bringing over 15 years of experience in the medical technology industry.
Previously, Roman served as Vice President, Strategy and FP&A for Baxter International, Inc., where he held roles of increasing responsibility since 2016. Prior to joining Baxter, he was a managing director at Goldman, Sachs & Co., leading the firm’s U.S. medical technology equity research team. Roman began his professional career in 2004 at Morgan Stanley, where he also covered the medical technology sector as a research analyst.
Roman earned his BA Degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Takeo Mukai joined Acutus in July of 2021 and currently serves as VP, Finance and Accounting & interim Chief Financial Officer. Takeo brings nearly 20 years of corporate finance and accounting to the company, including 14-years in the medical device industry with Medtronic where he served in financial management roles of increasing responsibility across multiple business units. Prior to this he was with Ford Motor Company
Takeo holds a B.S. from Carnegie Melon University in Business Administration and an M.B.A. from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California

Dr. Derrick Chou currently serves as the Chief Technology Officer of Acutus Medical, bringing over 9 years of experience in the design and development of pioneering medical technologies for the field of cardiac electrophysiology and imaging. He has distinguished himself as a leader in product innovation, scientific education, and clinical research.
Dr. Chou joined Acutus Medical in 2011 with a background in biomedical imaging and has been a key inventor and technology leader in software and algorithm development, ultrasound imaging, device navigation, and 3D cardiac mapping.
Dr. Chou earned BS degrees in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science, and MS and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University. He currently holds over 12 issued and pending U.S. patents.
Tom Sohn

Tom Sohn joined Acutus in March 2020 as the company’s General Counsel and Secretary with more than 17 years of experience in the technology and medical device industries.
Prior to Acutus, he spent over six years as General Counsel for Breg, and previous to that held legal leadership roles for NuVasive and Websense. Before moving to in-house counsel, Sohn spent nearly three years as a practicing attorney for DLA Piper in San Diego.
Sohn earned his JD from the University of San Diego Law School and holds a BA in Organizational Leadership from the University of Michigan.

Kevin Mathews is an experienced global commercial leader in the medical device space with over 25 years of experience in the med-surg, interventional cardiology, peripheral vascular and electrophysiology segments.
Prior to joining Acutus in 2020, Mathews led commercial operations and corporate accounts sales for Philips IGT-Devices (formerly Volcano and Spectranetics), after Philips acquired Volcano Corp. He also held leadership roles at Jomed, DeRoyal, and in KPMG’s healthcare practice.
Mathews earned a BA in Economics from the University of Tennessee, and holds an MBA from Emory University in Atlanta.

Shibaji Shome, PhD joined Acutus in 2019 bringing over 15 years of experience in the Medical Device industry and holds over 60 issued patents. Prior to joining Acutus Medical, he was with Medtronic Plc. where he held increasing responsible roles in upstream marketing and portfolio strategy. Earlier in his career, Shibaji also held numerous roles in product development and marketing with Boston Scientific Corporation
He earned his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from University of Utah where his research focused on electrocardiographic mapping for which he received the Jos Willems Young Investigator Award. He also holds an MBA from Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management

Diane Flynn joined the company in 2020 and is responsible for leading it’s strategy and business development activities. With over 25 years of business experience, she has extensive expertise in strategic planning, mergers & acquisitions, alliances, commercial development, distribution and licensing. Prior to Acutus, Flynn was an Executive in Residence at Cleveland Clinic, where she provided strategic and operational leadership to Cleveland Clinic Ventures Group portfolio companies. Prior to that, Flynn was Associate Vice President of Business Development at Volcano Corporation, and a Business Development Manager at Hewlett-Packard Medical Products Group
Flynn earned her Masters in Management, with emphasis in Marketing and Finance from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and holds a BA in Literature from Bard College

Greg Geissinger joined Acutus in June 2017 and has continually assumed additional responsibilities for the company. As an experienced quality and regulatory affairs professional he has over 14 years of global regulatory submission experience. He has a proven track record of success managing Class II and Class III medical device applications and associated quality systems. During his career, Geissinger has held increasingly responsible regulatory, clinical, and quality leadership positions, including at Dexcom, Covidien (ev3 Neurovascular), Boston Scientific (Cameron Health), and ReShape Medical
Geissinger earned his JD from the University of San Diego School of Law and holds a BS in Physiology and Neuroscience from the University of California at San Diego. He is a member of the State Bar of California

Chris Ingman joined the company in 2021 Bringing over 25 years of experience in operations, project management, and medical device industry success with an emphasis on operations management, lean efficiencies and implementing business excellence practices. He has held manufacturing leadership roles in disposable cardiology devices including diagnostic catheters and guidewires, cell therapy and capital equipment with Phyzhon Health and Vascular Imaging, Thermogenesis/Cesca Corp, and Volcano Corporation. Earlier in his career, Chris also spent over 5 years focused on implementing ERP platforms for life science companies
Ingman’s education includes a BA in Business Management from University of Phoenix, an AS in Computer Programming, a Black Belt Certification from the Lean Supply Chain Institute and Six Sigma Certification from Villanova University

Brent Lloyd is an experienced operational leader with 20 years of experience in the Medical Device Industry. Since joining Acutus in March of 2020, he has held positions of increasing responsibility, leading Customer and Field Service, Contracting, Clinical Training, and Hardware Manufacturing Operations. Prior to Acutus, Lloyd was the Regional Director of Service for Biosense Webster having led the US Field Service Team for 8 years of consecutive growth. His early professional career began at GE Healthcare and he subsequently moved to Philips Healthcare in various Service Leadership positions. He is also a Veteran of the United States Navy
Lloyd holds a BS in Technical Management and an MBA from Keller Graduate School. He also has a Certificate in Project Management from the University of California, Irvine

Thomas Esbeck joined Acutus in 2015 and brings over 20 years of experience in Medical Device Design and Engineering. Prior to joining Acutus Medical Thomas successfully led efforts to design and develop an array of cardiovascular products with Guidant Corporation (acquired by Abbott Vascular), and Volcano Corporation (acquired by Philips). Specializing in program management, catheter development, and innovation with novel medical devices, Thomas brings a deep background across process development, manufacturing, and design strategies leading teams to successfully launch novel class II and III medical products

Scott Huennekens has more than 25 years of experience in the medical device industry, specializing in clinical advancement through innovative R&D and technology-based initiatives. He has held a number of executive leadership roles within the healthcare industry, accelerating the next generation of digital surgery for Verb Surgical and leading Volcano Corporation, an image guided therapy device company, to its IPO in 2006. He holds an MBA from Harvard University and a BS in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. Huennekens currently sits on the boards of public companies Envista, NuVasive and ViewRay.

Dr. Andrew ElBardissi is an investor on the Private Transaction team at Deerfield Management. Prior to joining Deerfield, Dr. ElBardissi held roles as an early stage life-sciences investor at Longitude Capital and as an Investment Banker at J.P. Morgan’s Healthcare practice. Dr. ElBardissi holds an MD from Mayo Clinic, an MPH in Quantitative Methods from Harvard University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He received residency training in General Surgery at Harvard Medical School’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital and in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University. Dr. ElBardissi has been independently funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), has over 30 publications in leading peer reviewed scientific journals, and has presented his research at numerous medical and surgical conferences.

Dr. David Bonita is a Private Equity Partner at OrbiMed, where he serves on the boards of Loxo Oncology, Kyn Therapeutics, Clementia Pharmaceuticals, Tricida, Prelude Therapeutics, ViewRay, SI Bone and Keystone Heart. He previously served on the boards of Enobia Pharma, CardiAQ and Ambit Bioscience. Prior to joining OrbiMed, Dr. Bonita worked in the healthcare investment banking groups of Morgan Stanley and UBS. He has published several scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals based on research performed at the Harvard Medical School. Dr. Bonita received his AB degree magna cum laude in Biological Sciences from Harvard University and his joint MD/MBA from Columbia University where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society.

Dr. Marzouk is currently the U.S. President of GenesisCare, a position she has held since August 2022. Previously, she was President of CareMore Health and Aspire Health, subsidiaries of Elevance; Managing Director, Health and Global Health Innovation, of AXA health insurance and health services business in Asia; and Cardinal Health’s Medical Segment Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Marzouk also served in the U.S. Army on active duty, where she practiced as a neurosurgeon and served in Iraq as a Major. She received an MBA from The Fuqua School of Business, Duke University, an MD from St. Louis University School of Medicine, and a BA from the Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Marzouk also advises health technology companies and serves on advisory boards for the healthcare industry.

Ms. Pellegrini has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry and, since July 2019, has served as the Chief Commercial Officer of Nevro, Inc., a medical device company dedicated to helping patients suffering from chronic pain achieve lasting relief. Ms. Pellegrini has previously served as Vice President of Global Commercial Operations for Abbott Vascular, where she was responsible for driving approximately $3 billion in revenue, and as CEO and President at Autonomic Technologies, Inc., leading a turnaround of its European commercial business and driving U.S. market access. Ms. Pellegrini has also held positions in leadership, global business development, strategy and commercial with Thoratec Corporation and Johnson & Johnson. She earned both a B.S. and an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University.

Since March 2019, John Sheridan has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc., a medical device company specializing in the design, development and commercialization of products for people with insulin-dependent diabetes. He has been a member of Tandem’s Board of Directors since June 2019 and a member of the executive management team since 2013. Prior to joining Tandem Diabetes Care, Mr. Sheridan served as Chief Operating Officer of Rapiscan Systems, Inc., a provider of security equipment and systems, from March 2012 to February 2013. Mr. Sheridan served as Executive Vice President of Research and Development and Operations for Volcano Corporation, a medical technology company, from November 2004 to March 2010. From May 2002 to May 2004, Mr. Sheridan served as Executive Vice President of Operations at CardioNet, Inc., a medical technology company. From March 1998 to May 2002, he served as Vice President of Operations at Digirad Corporation, a medical imaging company. Mr. Sheridan holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of West Florida and an M.B.A. from Boston University.

Jason Garland has served as a member of our board of directors and chair of our Audit Committee since August 2022. Jason brings more than 25 years of extensive global financial experience and currently serves as Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer of Integer Holdings Corp (NYSE: ITGR) since 2018. Previously, Garland was Divisional Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for both the Global Sales and Diamond & Jewelry Supply divisions of Tiffany & Co. Prior to that, Garland held progressively challenging leadership roles across multiple complex and diverse GE businesses, including serving as Chief Financial Officer for GE’s Industrial Solutions business, Chief Risk Manager for GE Aviation Services, senior financial leadership roles at GE’s Oil and Gas business, and as a member of GE’s Corporate Audit staff. He completed GE’s two-year manufacturing leadership program and is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Garland received a B.S., Chemical Engineering, from the University of New Hampshire.
